Description
PROVENANCE: Private (Estate) collections of Anna Adeline (Anne Adeline) Haddrall (1929-2018), by inheritance. Anne Adele Haddrall was born in Perth County, Canada. Moved to Toronto as a teenager and raised her family in Stratford There she established the Haddrall School of Highland Dancing sharing her love of dance with students all over Stratford. In the late 1980s, she traveled worldwide to learn and share her experience. Mrs. Anne toured Europe and collected English secretaries, French demi-lunes and crystal girandoles along with highly collectible Chinese articles. Her collection grew and filled her home with many highly collectable . Items sold at auction will towards her designated charities.

Chinese spinach-green jade carved into a shape of Tibetan stupa, having opening at the central body, the surface carved in relief of lotus tendrils. Adorned by gilt bronze ornament inlaid with semi precious stones inlaid, including turquoise, lapis-Lazuli, tourmaline, red corals, and pearl. Well presented on square shaped gilt bronze lotus throne. The gilt bronze and green jade stupa cast in a hemispherical structure, the shape of the stupa represents the Buddha, crowned and adorned with many jewels, the crown is the top of the spire; the head is the square at the spire's base; the body is the vase shape; the legs are the four steps of the lower terrace; and the base is his throne.Although not described in any Tibetan text on stupa symbolism, the stupa may represent the five purified elements:The gilt bronze square base represents earthThe hemispherical dome/vase represents waterThe conical spire represents fireThe upper lotus gilt bronze parasol and the crescent moon represents airThe sun and the dissolving point represents the element of space Underside with incised quatrefoil flori-form petal visvavajra mark surrounding the centralized DaiJi.
