Patricia Smith was born and educated in England. She moved to Paris, France where she studied ceramics at the atelier of Francine del Pierre and the atelier of Jean Lugassy. She and her American husband and their three children continued living in Paris where Smith began teaching at The American University in Paris and later at The Parsons School of Design in Paris. After the family's return to New York City, Smith concentrated almost solely on her own body of work and exhibited widely in the U.S. She now lives and works in Old Lyme, CT.
