Clementine Hunter (American/Louisiana, 1887-1987), "Wash Day," oil on canvas board, monogrammed lower right, photo en verso with Clementine Hunter holding the painting, double float-mounted in giltwood frames, H.- 18 in., W.- 24 in., Framed- H.- 28 3/4 in., W.- 34 3/4 in. Provenance: Gilley's Gallery, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, 1988.
Condition
In overall very good condition with no inpainting or repairs detected under UV or white light. No craquelure is present and pigments retain excellent clarity of color. There are two small black specks/accretions to the left edge of the sky and there is a faint red line above the red clothes on the line, which may be innate.
