Peremptory Sale at Auction Thursday March 3d, 1904 by order of Dr. Emma L. Merritt Executrix of the Estate of Adolph Sutro, Deceased. Ocean Beach / Park Front / Marine View and Ashbury Heights Lots... Auction catalogue. 4 pp., single folded sheet. Printed in red, with maps on pp. 2 & 3. 31x24.2 cm (12¼x9½").
Two items related to Adolph Sutro's San Francisco properties. The first is a sale map for plots in the outer Richmond in San Francisco, including the coasts, Cliff House, Sutro Baths, etc. with terms printed on the back. Only twenty-five dollars down, and ten dollars a month was required for ownership, at 7% interest, but nowhere is the eventual total cost given. On the verso, it states that Sutro Baths will open in January. The "official" opening came some time after it was actually open. With original folds. The second item is a rare auction catalogue (unlisted in OCLC/WorldCat) for the sale of lots in the block bounded by C Street on the north and Fulton St. on the south, between 46th and 47th Avenues. Mrs. Emma L. Merritt was the daughter of Adolph Sutro. The auctioneers were Baldwin and Howell, one of the most famous and reputable real estate firms in San Francisco. One of the maps on pp. 2-3 is a cadastral map of the block, showing the numbered lots on offer, one of which is indicated as already sold. Above the cadastral map is a birdseye view of the neighborhood from 42nd Ave. to the Pacific Ocean and of Golden Gate Park. p. 4 features cadastral maps of Sutro Heights, Ashbury Heights and Ocean Beach. All three of the latter have annotations in blue ink. OCLC lists one copy of a later auction catalog, held at the University of California Berkeley.
