Description
Eastern Europe, 19th/20th Century. A needlework icon of the Theotokos with saints, her halo trimmed with what appear to be freshwater pearls, the embroidered figures on a gold brocade ribbon ground with beads and sequins, in a frame embellished with gold ribbon; 8 1/2" x 7" (frame 11 1/4" x 10"). Together with a printed icon of the Theotokos, in a shadowbox frame/kiot with ornate foil liner; 9" x 7 7/8" x 2 1/4". Condition: the needlework piece overall good, some scattered loose threads; the kiot with wear, the foil liner with some dents. Provenance: Private Collection, Northern California.
