Description
Bronze Grover Cleaveland 1880 Peace medal on what looks like North African trade bead necklace. The Hudson Bay company has been around since 1670. It is a Canadian company that for most of its history was involved in fur trading. When trading with Native American fur trappers HB would use trade beads imported from Italy and North Africa mainly, made into necklaces. Silver crosses and other objects were made into pendants on these necklaces. The silver pieces are especially important as they are marked and help identify and authenticate the pieces. This piece comes from a collection of a dealer in the US North-West. The dealers estate sold off vast inventory late last year. This is the first time this piece has become available online.
