Description
At the age of twelve, his father having been imprisoned for debts, he left school and worked in a factory before becoming a solicitor's clerk, then a columnist for the Morning Chronicle, where he married the editor's daughter.He published his first work, which was a success and brought him fame. His sentimentality increased with the Depression. In love with the actress Ellen Ternan, he left his wife, only to be disappointed again, which inspired him to write The Great Expectations. Throughout his work, he knew how to arouse sympathy for those who were suffering.Beautiful autograph letter signed, dated Gadshill, November 20 1860. Dickens certifies that Doctor Carl Adolf Buchhaim (1828 - 1900) is a gentleman, accustomed to providing instruction and clarification regarding German literature. He wishes to present his candidacy in London. and he is happy to have the opportunity to warmly commend him. Buchhaim read German with Dickens's daughters and he is very happy with him. 1 p. In-8.
