Item Details
Description
WHITE SHACK SIZE 13 x 13 x 12-1/4 Inches, in excellent condition. So many fine details on this deceptively simple work...The front and the sides offer very interesting details. They are decked with various found objects to evoke feelings of a simple life, familiarity and nostalgia. The front features a primitive and meticulously crafted porch with stairs and a rail, sheltered with an outdated, shabby, awning propped by two pillars.

The left side (facing the shack) is eqipped with a rack for loose lumber casually stacked in it.The back offers a set of bowling balls, a lifebuoy, scaled window and other circular objects. They are aranged in harmony with the other elements.A poem by it self.

The chimney has a proper opening on the top as it should and adds the element of warmth artist is constantly on the look for.The shack is set on four wood blocks and painted white over several different colors which can be seen throughout. It is certain that the artist takes time with her creations, investing herself deeply on emotional level.

"Famed for her political statements and desire to affect others towards just causes BEVERLY BUCHANAN uses art to make powerful aesthetic and political statments."Buchanan is best known for her many paintings and sculptures on the "shack," a rudimentary dwelling associated with the poor.Scholar Janet T. Marquardt argues that Buchanan treats shacks not as documentary elements but as "images of endurance and personal history"; often using bright colors and a style of childlike simplicity, the works "evoke the warmth and happiness that can be found even in the meanest dwelling, representing the faith and caring that is not reserved for privileged classes." Her art takes the form of stone pedestals, bric-a brac assemblages, funny poems, self portraits and sculptural shacks. But potent themes of identity, place and collective memory unite the works uncovering the animus that runs through them: to connect with those around her and reckon with the history that shaped her communities"...The item is in excellent condition with only minor signs of aging.
