Description
Beautiful Mughal shamshir with wootz blade and golden kofgari, 18-19 century. The steel hilt chiseled and heavily overlaid in silver, with fine floral panels inlaid in gold, the integral knuckelbow terminating in a pair of well-chiseled monster’s heads. The massive, curved, double-edged blade of dramatically undulating form, forged of fine, Persian wootz steel and lavishly inlaid in gold vinework for its entire length on either side. The scabbard is made of wood covered with green velvet with a metal ending decorated with gold kofgari. Late 18th - early 19th century. Light wear to blade. Overall length 98.4 cm.
