AN EMBROIDERED 'HUNDRED BIRDS' FOUR-PANEL SCREEN
Late Qing Dynasty
Each rectangular panel embroidered in coloured silk and gold-couched thread against a black ground to depict pairs of birds seated among flowering and fruiting foliage with butterflies hovering overhead, set within a hongmu frame carved and pierced in simulation of bamboo with a lower panel enclosing a small oval embroidery of birds, above a scroll-form apron connecting short feet, each leaf surmounted by a mount ornately carved with bamboo stems and leaves enclosing a further embroidered bird panel.
Each panel 190cm (74 3/4in) high x 56cm (22in) wide (8).
