Item Details
Description
Designed as a replica of the Lesotho I diamond ring by Harry Winston, centered by an emerald-cut diamond-simulant, 20 x 30 x 13mm, flanked by a pair of tapering baguette-cut diamond-simulants, tests for 14K gold, size 6 3/4. The Baroness von Langendorff owned this historic diamond, weighing 71.73 carats, at one time. She purchased it from and then resold it back to Harry Winston. Provenance: From the Estate of Baroness Gabriele Langer von Langendorff. Note:The Lesotho diamond was discovered by female miner Ernestine Ramaboa in 1967 . This large rough weighed 601 carats, which after several transactions was purchased in Geneva by Harry Winston. After studying the rough, Winston's cutter, Pastor Colon, cleaved the diamond, which was broadcast live on television. The result was eighteen diamonds, the three largest being the Lesotho I, weighing 71.83 carats, an elongated emerald-cut diamond, weighing 60.67 carats, and a marquise-cut diamond, weighing 40.42 carats (which was Aristotle Onassis presented to Jackie Kennedy upon her engagement). The Lesotho I Diamond Ring was originally sold to the Baroness as indicated in the copy of her purchase receipt. The Baroness later resold the diamond back to Harry Winston. Harry Winston and The Baroness had a unique and close relationship as evidenced by her special collection of jewels. Owning the Lesotho I Diamond was an important and historic purchase for the late Baroness; this replica represents her deep fondness for this legendary stone.
