Description
This is a bronze sculpture honoring, Darius I, known as Darius the Great (550 — 486 BCE). He was the third Persian "king of kings" (emperor) of the Achaemenid Empire. Darius held the empire at its peak, then including Egypt, Balochistan, and parts of Greece. The decay and eventual downfall of the empire commenced with his death and the ascension of his son, Xerxes I. Darius organized the empire- coordinated a new uniform monetary system, made Aramaic the official language of the empire and initiated construction projects throughout the empire, focusing on Susa, Pasargadae, Persepolis, Babylon, and Egypt. He stands defiant looking out at the beholder with a penetrating presence. This sculpture was cast using the archaic lost-wax method and finished with a brown patina stain for perpetuation and mounted upon a marble base. Dimensions: Height 17 X Width 8 inches. Weight: 15 LBS.
