Description
Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 2nd century CE. This is a bronze part of a steelyard weight in the shape of a Nubian youth's head, with the characteristic Roman depiction of the people who lived south and west of Egypt. This is a rare type for a weight. Size: 3" L x 2" W (7.6 cm x 5.1 cm).
Provenance: Ex-collection of Prof. Alcibiades N. Oikonomides (d.1988), Chicago, Illinois, acquired in the 1970's; private collection, Westlake Village, California
