Native American, Southwestern United States, Mesa Verde region, Ancestral Puebloan (Anasazi), ca. 900 to 1350 CE. A charming pottery mug of conical form with a planar base and a bifurcated handle. The white-ground vessel displays a tall decorative register of zigzagging bands and solid triangular areas within the bands. Pottery played an important role in Anasazi culture and included both utilitarian and decorative pieces that could be traded with neighboring communities for food or other goods.
