Item Details
Description
Featured in this lot is a Rare Edison Phonograph, Home version, Model K Reproducer, circa 1904-1909, in original Edison banner golden oak hardwood case. Serial number 393491D. This model is equipped with 2 and 4 minute switch. Thomas Edison invented the phonograph in 1877, which was developed as a result of Edison's work on two other inventions, the telegraph and the telephone, but it really didn't make its way into American homes for at least twenty years. The removable red Cignet horn has the self-supporting crane balanced by a foot that clips under the back of the case. In general, the historical progression was from conical horns to belled horns to petalled horns. This phonograph is in amazingly well-preserved condition, appears intact ,though it has not been tested for functionality. The Cignet horn disassembles into two parts as does the self-supporting crane. Whole phonograph measures 38.5"H x 20"W x 20"D assembled. Horn has a 18.75" diameter mouth opening. In case, phonograph measures 17"L x 9.5"W x 9.5"D. Total combined weight 31lb 1oz.*
