Rare Original Joseph Banks' Florilegium Engraving - Plate 280 GREVILLEA GLAUCA (PROTEACEAE). Printer's Proof No. 2 of 3. Printed by Malcolm Humble. Published: London: Alecto Historical Editions in association with the British Museum (Natural History), 1983. The engraving is complete with its original mounting, and has an original price in pencil in verso lower left corner of mounting: $1,500 | Approx. Size: Unframed: Broadsheet folio 29" H x 22.5" W. Note: This plate is sold out and is no longer available from Alecto Historical Editions.
Provenance: The engraving was acquired directly from the London Printer in June 1986, meeting in person with Malcolm Humble who had been issued all or a portion of the printer?s proof set 2/3, from which was purchased this engraving. Included is a Certificate of Authenticity as well as several letters, notes, etc. documenting this provenance.
Additional Information: A color Line engraving by Daniel MacKenzie after Sydney Parkinson (1770) and Frederick Polydore Nodder. Joseph Banks and his party saw this species at: Endeavour River, Australia (17 June - 4 August 1770). From the Australia Plates (Parts 1 - 15).
Medium: color engraving and etching (? la poup?e) with hand-coloring.
Measurements: 36.6 ? 22.5 cm (image) 46.1 ? 30.0 cm (plate) 72.0 ? 55.8 cm (sheet). [Unframed: Broadsheet folio 29" H x 22.5" W.
