Description
Antique 1800s Percussion Rifle. Original antique Percussion Rifle from the Civil War period or early 1800s. It is engraved AS GOLCHER and has an engraved bird. The gun was believed to have been picked up at the Battle of Wounded Knee. The guns had been released by F.D. Seiberling, Assistant Foreman of the Rock Island Arsenal on May 18th to Professor J.W. Ellis. Some had original tags with the rack number, but this gun did not. It is reportedly to be from May 18th, 1897 to Prof. J. W. Ellis. It is a buck and ball flintlock that was converted to a percussion. It also may have been shortened for use on horseback. It has iron accents like the trigger guards and butt plate. The wood has scratches and chips and the metal shows signs of rust. Measures 48in x 2.5 x 5 inches. The gun comes with a paper that explains about Rock Island, Illinois, May 8, 1897. An Article about the battles and battlefields that General James W. Ellis was a part of. The third document is a Biography article written by J. W. Ellis on himself. Last is a copy of Paper Slip With Rock Island printed at the top.
