Description
The robust, shallowly-curved blade with a pronounced central ridge and raised yelman back edge developing into an armor-piercing tip. The diminutive iron guard with lozenge-form ecusson wrought with pronounced central ridge and terminating in a pair of expanded peaked quillons. The tapered tang retains a rivet which originally secured the grip or grips. 9th-12th century. Excavated. As found. Ex-Egil Haggmann Collection, N.Y. 1979. Reportedly Mongol, acquired in Yarkand, Kashgar Province, Xinjiang. Overall length 86.4 cm/ 34". Condition V
