Description
**Originally Listed At $350**

United States, New England, likely Massachusetts, Sandwich / Boston ca. 1830s to 1840s CE. A pair of oil lamps with double brass wicks, both made with pressed lead glass. One is entirely cut glass and the other has a brass and marble stand attached to the glass. The pressed glass also known as flint glass was colorless and then cut and faceted, to reflect and refract the light. The tapered brass tubes point at an angle away from the lamps to mitigate the danger of the burning tips. The fuel used at this time was a highly flammable and explosive mixture of turpentine and alcohol. Size of largest: 4.125" W x 11.5" H (10.5 cm x 29.2 cm)

Provenance: private Lumberton, Texas, USA collection, acquired before 2010
