Lyndon Johnson Signed Naval Photo "For a pleasant lady"
Signed photograph

A black and white portrait photograph depicting future President Lyndon B. Johnson in his Navy uniform. 1p, measuring 8" x 10", n.p., undated. Uniquely signed and inscribed to an unknown recipient: "For a pleasant lady from a much too serious man-/ LBJ". Light surface toning, with isolated feathering to inscription; creasing to bottom right corner. A near fine example overall.

Johnson, then a congressman, was serving in the Naval Reserve when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. Two days later, he requested an indefinite leave of absence to apply for active duty, making him one of the first members of Congress to volunteer for an active military role. He notably served under General Douglas MacArthur in Australia, receiving a Silver Star for "gallantry in action on a flight over enemy territory".

This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
