Description
A small light green bottle with round body and thin neck. Encrusted throughout. Provenance: Dr. Arnold Saslow. Acquired in Munich, late 1970’s.Ex. Collection, New York, NY Tear bottles were believed to have been used in Ancient Rome as vessels to catch the tears of mourners. The tears would be collected and buried with loved ones as a sign of love and respect. This practice is also seen in other ancient cultures, including Greek and Egyptian.
