Description
Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, ca. 500 BCE to 1000 CE. A set of 9 hand-built pottery artifacts from ancient Ecuador. First are 4 petite bird figurines, and next is a bird-form vessel with one leg. A shell-shaped pendant features a large opening on one side, and a red-painted jar bears an incised face on the front of the rim. A double-whistle exhibits an arching handle and a pair of anthropomorphic figures, and the largest resembles a stylized crustacean. Size of largest: 5" L x 2.4" W x 1.6" H (12.7 cm x 6.1 cm x 4.1 cm)
Provenance: private Reinsmoen collection, Clear Lake, Iowa, USA, acquired through descent from Robert Anderson, acquired prior to 2000
