Description
Native American, Southwestern United States, Arizona, Tonto Basin, Anasazi (Ancestral Puebloan), Greater Mogollon, Salado, ca. 1250 to 1450 CE. A hand-built Pinto Polychrome (or possibly Gila) pottery bowl of hemispherical form, with a red exterior slip, and a black-on-white pattern on the interior. The prehistoric cultural group in the Tonto Basin, known today as the Salado, inhabited this region between 1250 CE and 1450 CE. The name "Salado" is derived from the Spanish Rio Salado, referring to the Salt River that flows from the White Mountains in eastern Arizona through the Tonto Basin to its confluence with the Gila River in central Arizona. There are three main styles of Salado polychrome pottery: Pinta, Gila, and Tonto. Size: 6.5" Diameter x 3.25" H (16.5 cm x 8.3 cm)

Repaired and restored from 2-3 large pieces. Infill and light overpainting along break lines on the interior. Great preservation to motifs. Find site written on the base.
