Anita Polacca (Native American, Hopi, 1929-2002) ca. mid to late 20th century CE. A handmade pottery bowl in the Sikyatki Revival style, the motif is divided with a kachina figure above an abstract black-on-yellow geometric motif that likely symbolizes clouds and rain. The underside is signed "ANITA POLACCA". This style emerged in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, inspired by prehistoric pottery found at the archaeological site of Sikyatki, located on the Hopi Reservation in Arizona. Anita Polacca was born to renowned Hopi potter, Violet Huma (1900-1991), in the village of Sichomovi - which seems to be less than 3 miles from the ancient Sikyatki site. She was active between 1940 and 2002, specializing in the creation of black and red on yellow bowls, often incorporating lids and crafting cylinder vases. Her artistry and cultural contributions are preserved and celebrated in institutions such as the Museum of Northern Arizona. Size: 9.8" Diameter x 2.25" H (24.9 cm x 5.7 cm)
