Description
East Asia, Russia, Imperial Era, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A yellow-copper & brass collection of tea service items: a large urn known as a samovar, a tea pot, and an oval tray. The tray is stamped "No. 10. / T.K." and the coffee pot is unmarked. The samovar bears many stamps and Russian Cyrillic text, as well as the Imperial eagle, which all indicate this was made under a Czar before the Russian Revolution of 1917 - possibly Alexander III (1845 to 1894). A samovar is a traditional Russian device for heating tea water, typically a large metal container with a spigot, and a separate area / pipe inside for holding the fuel. 19th century samovars are often adorned with decorative elements, factory stamps, and marks honoring the reigning czar. According to the previous owner, the Samovar was purchased in Pakistan from Afghan refugees during the 1980s. Size of samovar: 12" W x 19.5" H (30.5 cm x 49.5 cm)

Corrosion and patina to the lid on the smaller pot, and abrasions / scratches to the tray. Included are 4 extra wood and porcelain knobs that may have been attached to other vessels. When the lid of the crown / very top of samovar is removed, the tea pot fits in place. Unclear if these are a matching set. Abrasions and wear to stamps, but most are clear and visible.
