Description
Native American, Southwestern United States, Pueblo culture, ca. 1890s to 1920s CE. A traditional necklace comprised of double cotton cords strung with heishi shell beads, rough-cut turquoise stones, and a dangling jacla pendant. Jacla are two loops of beads fastened to the bottom of a necklace as a pendant ornament, these beads often contrast and compliment the necklace strand - these jacla beads are greenstone, and the central beads (white shell on this example) are called "corns" since they resemble kernels. This necklace has all the elements to indicate this is an older example from the turn of the century and possibly pre-1920s. Size of necklace strand doubled: 22" L (55.9 cm); jacla strand: 5.5" L (14 cm); largest turquoise stone: 0.65" L x 0.45" W (1.7 cm x 1.1 cm)
