Bronze

India 14th century

Dimensions: Height 6,5 cm Wide 5,5 cm Depth 3,5 cm

Weight: 232 grams

Small bronze figurine of Ganesha, remover of obstacles and son of Shiva and Parvati.

He is seated on a round lotus base on a square surface, his vehicle the mouse is standing underneath him.

His body is shaped like an eight with a big protruding belly, the snake wrapped around it as belt and the sacred thread hanging over his left shoulder.

Ganesha is here depicted with four arms, he is holding his attributes, his broken tusk, a noose with which he can bind and free obstacles, a conch shell and a large sweets ball.

The deity's trunk is curved to the right signifying the Pingala nadi or energy line standing for masculinity.

In opposit to the left-curved trunk, which is the most common found depiction, the right-curved trunk calls for daily and strictlier performed ceremonies to worship and therefore can often be found at temples.

The lord is wearing a conical headdress, the details of the face are partly lost due to rub off.
