On p. 1 is an unusual article about Grant hovering near death (he would actually die that same day): “In the Shadowy Valley. / The Patient Sufferer at Mount MacGregor Facing the Grim Monster Death. / At 3 O’Clock This Morning He Was Fast Drifting Toward the End. / Brave to the Last, He Insists that No One Shall Be Distressed on His Account.” And MAYER, Louis. Gen. Grant’s Funeral March Composed in commemoration of a Nation’s sorrow at his death. Philadelphia: F. A. North & Co., 1885. 4to. [6] pp. Self-wrappered. Lithographed cover image of Grant flanked by flags. Approximately 14 x 10 ½”. Toned, edgeworn, soiled, some tears. Good.
