Description
Inscribed on the back "Preliminary sketch for proposed smoking panels for S.S. America U S Lines Austin Purves 1940" Appears to be ink or paint over foil paper under a mat. The SS America ocean liner ship was an art deco american style designed interior and had a mural for every state. This is reported to be the sketch for the state of Arizona that is signed on the R/S lwr corner "A #102 9" and has descended from a close family of Purvis when they lived in Litchfield Connecticut. Image measures 5-1/2" x 7" and over all with frame under glass measures 9-3/4" x 10-1/4" This is one of three lots by Purves offered in this auction.
