Description
Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Jamacoaque (Jama Coaque) culture, ca. 500 BCE to 500 CE. A wonderful pottery figure of a seated shaman heavily adorned with a bulbous headdress, giant earrings, and a broad poncho with applied dots likely intended as shells. A prominent, square ornament extends from his chin as he holds up a mortar and pestle, likely intended to prepare whatever substance was ingested during the shamanic ceremony. Size: 4.2" L x 4.7" W x 7.3" H (10.7 cm x 11.9 cm x 18.5 cm)

Professionally repaired with some light resurfacing and restoration in areas. Light surface wear in a few small areas with minor chipping to one earring, but otherwise, excellent presentation with nicely preserved detail and good remaining pigments.
