Description
Pre-Columbian, North Coast of Peru, Sican to Lambayeque Transition Period, ca. 800 to 1000 CE. A beautiful silver kero boasting a towering, conical body and a circular, flared rim, all sitting upon a concave base. The hammered sheets were shaped around a mold, their ends soldered together, and then the components joined permanently around the corseted base. Around the rim are 2 stylized simian creatures in repousse with curled tails and playful facial expressions. Scholars posit vessels like this example were used in ceremonial or ritual manners. The lustrous sheen of the silver highlights the elegant form of this remarkable vessel. Size: 4.8" L x 4.6" W x 9.2" H (12.2 cm x 11.7 cm x 23.4 cm); silver quality: 70%; total weight: 219.5 grams
