Description
PISTOLE 657(n) SEMI AUTO PISTOL. Cal. 11.25mm (45 ACP). S# 29634 (1945). During World War II, Germany invaded Norway to secure natural resources. In June 1940, the Knogsberg factory was commandeered for German production. The licensed copy of the Colt 1911, the Norwegian Model 1914, was given the designation of the Pistole 657(n) & mfg. from 1940 through 1945. During 1945, The Germany Army Weapons Office order production of pistols in preparation for an Allied invasion of Norway. Per "Colt .45 Government Models (COmmercial Series)" by Charles Clawson, " for a total production of 921 pistols... 921 were Nazi proofed in the serial number range from 29615 to 30535" (This pistol is 19 from earliest S#). This pistol exhibits the phosphate finish developed by the Germans. This pistol has all matching numbers on the following parts: The 5" barrel having script "JB" Jorgen Bjornholt below number & German firing proof on lug; Jorgen Bjornholt was a civilian sub-inspector forced into to be control officer by the Germans. Matching numbered slide with correct Kongsberg crest (used from 1945-1947), German Waffenamt 84, dated "1945" & stamped with dot & "A" behind rear sight. Matching numbered slide stop, trigger, thumb safety, mainspring housing & grip safety on frame with script "JB" proof on triggerguard. Frame fitted with two piece checkered birch grips. MAGS: 1 nickel plated 7 rd. with blued base having lanyard loop. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: black leather holster with pull up strap, 2 belt loop straps & brass stud for closing strap. Holster in good to very good condition showing marks & scuffs throughout. Verdigris present on base of stud & interior parts of holster. CONDITION: very fine. This pistol has very good original phosphate finish showing light edge wear, wear from slide stop installation & scattered light scratches. Slide shows wear around muzzle, spots of verdigris on front sight, & scattered deep scratches. Firing pin plate & hammer has bright appearance. Mag. button has rough finish & poor fit to frame. Very good grips. Barrel has good phosphate finish with cycling wear. Bore shows area of light pitting on top of bore near chamber; balance very good. (24-1819/MD). CURIO. $6,000-8,000.
