Description
Henri Matisse (after): Nature Morte au Magnolia, 1950. Woodcut on paper. 14 x 18” Hand-signed Matisse in pencil lower right, marked EA or Artist's Proof lower left. A single print from the E'stampes portfolio, 1950 published by Robert Rey. The E'stampes portfolio is considered to be one of the greatest accomplishments in the the medium of wood prints and fine printmaking in general. Artists included in the beautification project commissioned by the French government after WWII were: Georges Braque, Maurice Brianchon, Marc Chagall, Françoise Desnoyer, Raoul Dufy, Marie Laurencin, Henri Matisse, Nature Morte au Magnolia; Pablo Picasso, Maurice Utrillo, Kees van Dongen, Maurice de Vlaminck and Henri de Waroquier. Expert woodworking experts spent years translating the paintings into wood prints. They were then examined and approved and hand-signed by the artists and presented in the portfolio. Provenance: New Orleans Auction Galleries, LA, Jessica Leigh Collection, Bedford Art Gallery Brooklyn, New York.
Condition
Good Condition, vivid color, no foxing or apparent fading. Appears hinges have been removed from verso. Frames and presents beautifully.
