Provenance: Heritage Auctions, Jessica Leigh Collection, Bedford Art Gallery Brooklyn, New York. Daniel Arsham is a New York based contemporary artist, who was raised in Miami, Florida. His formative years were marked by a significant event when Hurricane Andrew destroyed his childhood home when he was 12. This traumatic experience has since become a recurring motif in his artistic endeavors, wind, time and destruction. Arsham attended the Design and Architecture High School and was granted a full scholarship to The Cooper Union in New York City, where he further honed his creative skills.Arsham's career trajectory began to soar when he received the Gelman Trust Fellowship Award in 2003 and subsequently won the 37th GNMH Award. After completing his education, he returned to Miami and co-founded an exhibition space called "The House" with fellow artists, which served as a pivotal platform for his early career. It was through this initiative that he crossed paths with Emmanuel Perrotin in 2004, leading to representation by Galerie Perrotin in Paris by 2005.Arsham's artistic journey expanded beyond traditional mediums as he delved into stage design, notably collaborating with choreographer Merce Cunningham's Dance Company. This collaboration sparked a sustained engagement with choreographer Jonah Bokaer, a former Cunningham dancer, resulting in innovative stage designs and performances. In 2007, Arsham co-founded Snarkitecture with Alex Mustonen, a collaborative architecture practice that redefines spatial experiences through imaginative manipulation of existing materials. Over the years, Snarkitecture has ventured into various realms, including fashion, interior design, and architectural installations.Arsham's foray into filmmaking culminated in the establishment of Films of the Future in 2014. This production company serves as a visual counterpart to his artwork, offering a cinematic dimension to his futuristic visions.Arsham's multidisciplinary approach has led to numerous collaborations with renowned figures across industries. From fashion icons like Hedi Slimane and Kim Jones to artistic luminaries like Hajime Sorayama and Ronnie Fieg, Arsham's collaborative ventures have transcended boundaries and garnered widespread acclaim. His work has been showcased in prestigious institutions worldwide, including PS1 in New York, The Museum of Contemporary Art in Miami, and The New Museum in New York, among others. Arsham's artistic footprint extends globally, with representation by esteemed galleries such as Galerie Perrotin and Nanzuka Gallery.
