Description
“EARLY TO MARKET”. Victor Coleman Anderson was born in 1882 and was a well-known painter of the Hudson River School. He attended the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, and his favorite subjects were rural landscapes and life in rural America. Many of his works were featured in "Life" and other magazines, and he was exhibited in the National Academy. “Early to Market” is an oil on illustration board measuring 10” x 16 3/4" and depicts a rural family going into town at sunrise to sell their goods at market in the city. The painting is signed “Victor C. Anderson” at the lower right, and is inscribed on the reverse with the artist’s address. CONDITION: painting shows no damage or restoration. Frame shows light wear, particularly at the edges. PROVENANCE: Martin Lane Historic & Western Americana Lifetime Collection. (02-21577/BF). $300-500.
