This beautiful antique beaded circle uranium glass butterdish was made by National Glass Company at the Dugan Factory in the USA. The exact year is unknown, but this piece began its journey sometime between 1900 and 1903. This very rare butterdish is in good antique condition with both light and heavy scratches, small chips on the lid handle, and some wear to the gold paint (see pictures). None of these subtract from the stunning beauty of this fantastic piece, which radiates with a bright green glow under blacklight. Measures approx. 6 1/2" tall x 7" wide at base. National Glass Company began its history in 1892 as the Indiana Glass Company, operating from Indiana, PA, until 1896. Harry Northwood and Samuel Dugan and sons took over the company in 1896 and changed the name to Northwood. Then, from 1900 to 1903, it was known as National Glass Company under Harry Bastow and Thomas E.A. Dugan (Samuel's son). in 1904, it was called the Dugan Glass Company, which it remained until 1909. From 1913, it became the Diamond Glass Company and would remain such until its closing in 1931 due to a plant fire.
