[CIVIL WAR - GETTYSBURG]. CDV of General Lysander Cutler. New York: Brady, n.d.
CDV on cardstock mount (minor imperfections to print including some discoloration spots; mount with some soiling, staining, and wear to edges and corners). Brady's imprint to mount recto and verso. Verso also bears affixed 2-cent revenue stamp and period inked inscription "Cutler." Cutler appears in this half portrait wearing a brigadier general uniform and sporting his characteristic facial hair.

Lysander Cutler (1807-1866) was commissioned colonel of the 6th Wisconsin Infantry Regiment, part of the famed "Iron Brigade," on 28 May 1861. Cutler was severely wounded in the right thigh at First Bull Run before assuming brigade command with a later official promotion to brigadier general after the Battle of Fredericksburg, retroactive to November 1862. At Gettysburg, Cutler led the 2nd brigade of Wadsworth's small division in the I Corps during the fighting on 1 July.

In March 1864 Cutler was given command of the 1st Brigade, 4th Division, V Corps, leading it in the Battle of the Wilderness, and commanding the division into the Siege of Petersburg. Shortly after he was brevetted a major general in August 1864, Cutler was struck in the face at the Battle of Globe Tavern and forced to leave field command. He served as an administrator for the duration of the war, resigning from the army in June of 1865. He would die of complications from his injuries the following year.
