Description
Pre-Columbian, Peru, possibly Wari / Huari culture, ca. 600 to 1000 CE. A hand-woven textile sash made from camelid fibers, perhaps alpaca or llama, using the double weave technique - the reverse face has a different pattern than the obverse. The lengthy piece depicts abstract creatures, perhaps frogs, and is complete with finished edges, so perhaps this was worn wrapped around a waist, securing and accenting the traditional wrapped dress worn by Andean people.
