Pre-Columbian, Hispaniola, Taino Peoples 1000 CE - 1500 CE. Miniature Trigonolito or Zemi or three pointer stone carved with a face and scroll work to the reverse from rock crystal. An excellent well aged example of an authentic Taino artifact. Probably used as a game piece or ceremonial object. Size 2 1/2" W x 2 1/2" H
Taino people inhabited the Caribbean islands, including present-day Cuba, Jamaica, Hispaniola (Haiti and the Dominican Republic), Puerto Rico, and the Bahamas, before the arrival of Christopher Columbus in 1492. The Taino were skilled farmers, fishermen, and craftspeople, known for their advanced agricultural techniques, beautiful pottery, intricate carvings, and unique social and religious practices.
