WWII Officers' Ike Jacket and English Made Service Hat Identified to Navigator 2nd Lt. Forrest Eherenman, 379th Bomb Group, 525th Bomb Squadron, 8th Air Force. A nicely tailored officer's Ike jacket with wool Army Air Force winged-star on the left sleeve, all collar insignia and 2nd Lieutenant's bars on the shoulder. The jacket is accompanied by a beautiful service hat made by the English firm of Hobson & Sons. The hat is constructed of fine fur-felt with a russet leather bill and chin strap. The leather sweatband is stamped size 7 ¼, Broad Arrow marked and dated 1943. The large cloth maker's tag sewn on the inside lining reads: "MANUFACTURED BY / Hobson & Sons/ (London) Ltd. / LONDON / S.E. / Expressly for / THE UNITED STATES FORCES / IN EUROPEAN OPERATIONS." Eherenman has signed his name in ink at the lower edge of the tag. On the underside of the sweatband he's also written "EHERENMAN 0-678707 379 BOMB GRP 525 SQDN." The uniform and hat are accompanied by a small photo of Eherenman in uniform, perhaps this very uniform, walking with an attractive young woman.
