Item Details
Description
Evidentiary Documents From the Joint Congressional Committee on the Investigation of the Pear Harbor Attack, June 20, 1946. The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor stunned the nation but Congress postponed a thorough investigation of the attack while the nation was at war. After the war Senate Majority Leader Alben Barkley was the first to call for action, presenting a Senate resolution on September 6, 1945. The resolution authorized a 10-member committee, evenly divided between members of the House of Representatives and the Senate, and chaired by Senator Barkley, to investigate "the facts relating to events and circumstances leading up to or following the attack made by Japanese armed forces upon Pearl Harbor." The results of the Committee were published and printed into many volumes which were heavily illustrated with folding maps, charts, tables and facsimiles of classified documents. The following documents are included in the lot: Map of Pearl Harbor, marked Confidential and listed as Item No. 2 Alien Japanese Controlled Corporations in Hawaii, marked Declassified and listed as Item No. 28 Toshima Class Jap Minelayer With Influence Ground Mines, marked Confidential and listed as Item No. 41 Map of the track of the Japanese carriers from Pearl Harbor to Midway, marked Confidential and listed as Item No. 3 Chart of torpedo runs, marked Top Secret, listed as Item No. 7 Chart of the performance of the B-17B airplane, marked Confidential/Top Secret and listed as Item No. 22 Chart of the search for the Japanese attackers by aircraft from the carrier Enterprise, marked Top Secret and listed as Item No. 52 Disposition of the U.S. Fleet, listed as Item No. 15 Japanese Consular Organization in Hawaii, marked Top Secret/Declassified, listed as Item No. 24 Large folding map of the world marked Secret and dated December 2, 1941 marked Enclosure (B) Condition: The paper quality is fragile and there are a few splits in the folds, otherwise all exhibits are in very good condition.
