Description
A Lega Mask Democratic Republic of Congo, c. late 19th to early 20th century Blond wood in an elongated oval, pointed at chin. A vertical groove from brow to tip of nose, somewhat desiccated at the brow. The cheeks incised in a checkerboard pattern in a chevron shape. Eyes, nostrils, and mouth open, perforated around lower perimeter with attachment of a vegetal fiber beard. Remains of white pigment on the face, somewhat obscuring the checkerboard pattern on the cheeks. Raised eyes, nose, and brow rubbed and polished from use. The back side shiny from use. In very good condition, appropriate for age, origin, mediums, and use.
