Riggs had been one of the world's top tennis players in the 1940s and in 1973 remarked that the women's game was inferior. He claimed that he could still (at age 55) beat any of the top women's players in the world, which left many outraged. Even though Riggs managed to defeat Margaret Court in the 1st match he eventually lost to Billie Jean King in the 2nd match depicted here in this photo.
