America, 19th century (c. 1845). A hand-colored lithograph of O-hya-wa-mince-kee (A Chippewa Chief) by Alfred M. Hoffy, a. 1835 - 1864, after Charles Bird King, 26 Sep 1785 - 18 Mar 1862 and James Otto Lewis, 1799 - 1858.
Published by J. T. Bowen Lithography Company, active 1834 - 1844(?). Thomas L. McKenney and James Hall's History of the Indian Tribes of North America, 3 vols., Philadelphia, 1837 - 1844.
Originals are also held by the National Portrait Gallery, Smithsonian Museum of Art, and Library of Congress.
Measures 20” x 14 ¼”; on wove paper. Ghosting of text transfered onto print, overall good condition.
