Description
This lot presents a fantastic piece of aviation history, centered around Gen. Gerald Johnson, USAF, Ret., a decorated pilot from the 56th Fighter Group that made the P-47 Thunderbolt a legend during WWII. The collection features several black and white prints of WWII aircraft, specifically the American P-47 Thunderbolt and the German Junkers Ju 87 Stuka, illustrated with beautiful detail. The prints are made on heavier stock paper, and the set is further distinguished by three handwritten notes: one by John Bannister to Gen. Johnson, one on a postcard from Gen. Johnson to a "John," and one on Duane R. Boda's letter signed by "Jerry" (presumably Gen. Johnson). The overall composition and content suggest a personal exchange between the artists/distributors and the veteran, adding significant intrinsic value. Visible materials include paper prints, typed letters on stationary, and a small postcard. All prints and documents appear to be in excellent or very good condition, showing minimal to no wear, creasing, or fading, consistent with having been stored flat. Part of the John Bannister Collection. H 11", W 17". See photos.
