Here is a great example of a Feldfernsprecher 33 (FF33), the primary field communication device used by the German Wehrmacht throughout World War II. Housed in its original mottled brown Bakelite casing, this unit is remarkably well-preserved. Notable features include the internal wiring schematics riveted to the lid, the original leather shoulder strap dated “1939”, and a phonetic alphabet plate, along with swastika helmet plate with a green line on the top exterior. The swastika helmet plate with green line indicates that the phone was a standard military version with improved line impedance matching system (Better voice clarity) The interior reveals the handset and generator components, with clear manufacturing stamps including the year 1939, serial number “29302”, and the manufacturer's mark "MT" in a circle, a mark associated with Mix & Genest of Berlin. Overall, the Bakelite case is in good shape, with chipping on one corner and surface scuffing throughout associated with use. The leather strap is in good shape and is supple. Internal cloth-covered cords show some light wear but are pliable. The unit is untested for functionality, but the hand crank does turn.
