Crafted around 1920, this globe features a scale of 1:40,000,000 by cartographer L. Windels, and is mounted on a beautifully patinated green and gilt painted cast iron tripod. The globe is constructed from iron and paper, showcasing a hand-crafted design with intricate details including 12 colored spindles and 2 polar caps on a sturdy steel axis. The equator is graduated in hours and degrees, and the globe displays historical ocean currents, telegraph lines, European colonies, voyages of discovery, and ethnic illustrations representing the five races inhabiting the earth. Noteworthy regions such as the Transvaal in South Africa and the extent of the French Empire in West Africa are prominently outlined.
