A recurring theme in Gerritz's work is the river landscape and his favourite vista, clouds above tree formations. In addition, rising church towers, farmers' fences, riverbanks and parcelled meadows are the main motifs in his paintings.Over the years, Gerritz's landscapes have become more abstract. They become more and more vistas in mind. He uses stylised imagery, emphasising his perception of the landscapes. The landscapes are not clearly recognisable, but purely an atmosphere of feeling. Characteristic for Gerritz' creations is the enthusiastic use of bright and expressive colours.Harrie Gerritz' work is exhibited both in the Netherlands and abroad, for instance in Museum Het Valkhof in Nijmegen. His work belongs to the collections of companies, private individuals and museums, including the Museum van Bommel van Dam in Venlo and the Historical Museum Deventer.
