EXHIBITION ENGRAVED COLT MODEL 1849 REVOLVER. Cal. 31. S# 31113. There are very few panel scene factory engraved percussion Colts extant, and double panel scene revolvers are true rarities. Unique recumbent lion with emanating rays engraved on right barrel housing, and spread wing eagle with rays on left, "SAML COLT" engraved on barrel, "COLTS PATENT" engraved of frame, balance of revolver engraved in transitional foliate arabesque scrolls, silver plated grip frame, mounted with fiery burl grips. Standard configuration for 1852 manufacture, 6" barrel, blued finish, 5-shot cylinder with stagecoach holdup rolled scene, silver plated trigger guard & back strap contain a deluxe burl walnut varnished 1-pc grip with matching SN in back strap channel. S# have punch dot indicating that revolver was to receive extra polish for engraving. CONDITION: very good to fine overall, about 40% original thinning blue finish, silver/gray patina on balance, 95% silver plating remains, sharp details and engraving, all original, complete and matching S#s throughout. Grips retain 90% original factory varnish with light edge wear, cylinder scene is all visible, all 5 functional safety pins. Mechanics fine, crisp rifled bore.
