Engel aside from a painter was a talented American film maker , sculptor, graphic artist, set designer, animator, film director and teacher. He was in fact one of the founding directors at the California Institute of Art. He was inspired by Kandinsky, Klee, Miro< matisse and Dufy. There is also a Jules Engel Scholarship fund also. His paintings are in collecttions of major museums and in private collections.
